The world's first 32 T all-superconducting magnet reached field at the National High Magnetic Field Lab (NHMFL) in Tallahassee, Florida, USA in late 2017 and is now serving the scientific community. The magnet uses the insulated double-pancake technology. The NHMFL initiated develpment of a 40 T all-superconducting magnet also using RBECO double-pancakes in 2018. The R&D phase of the project is now complete and the Conceptual Design Phase is nearing completion. A significant amount of materials characterization, as well as component and coil testing has been completed along with significant progress in computation of screening currents and the strains associated with them.
An update on the status of these two projects is presented as well as various new concepts being explored.
