Superconducting magnet needs for the UK’s STEP fusion reactor
*Frank Schoofs1, Peter Daniels1

The Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) is an ambitious UK program to design and construct a prototype fusion energy plant. The first phase to produce a concept design is currently underway and aims to conclude by 2024. As well as an introduction to STEP, this talk will give an overview of the magnet design efforts and collaborations underway and highlight critical research aspects in superconducting joints, irradiation and modelling.
