abstract
A REBCO bulk magnet can generate a strong magnetic field as compared with the common permanent magnets and electromagnets, and then, various applications such as an electric rotating machine have been discussed. Pulsed-field magnetization (PFM) is a method of applying a magnetic field for a short time to a cooled bulk. This method has advantages in that the operating time is short, and the magnetizing equipment is compact and inexpensive. On the other hand, a disadvantage is that a trapped field is not very high because the bulk is not as exposed to the magnetic flux. Thus, a soft-iron yoke is generally used to increase the trapped field by enlarging the applied flux. This paper investigates the magnetizing performance of a bulk magnet activated by PFM when using different yokes experimentally and numerically.
